Engine Inspection & Maintenance (Clean Truck Check Program)

CARB has implemented a comprehensive Engine Inspection & Maintenance Program for all non-gasoline vehicles over 14,001 lbs. operating in California. This program is designed to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and to reduce harmful emissions on California roadways. Under this regulation, both engine performance and emission control systems must be routinely inspected and maintained. Any identified issues must be repaired prior to continued operation to remain compliant.

Active Enforcement & NTS Letters

CARB has deployed roadside screening devices throughout California and at key border entry points to identify high-emitting vehicles in real time. Fleets identified as potential high emitters may receive a Notice to Submit to Testing (NTS) letter.

This requires you to:

Complete CARB-compliant testing within 30 days
Demonstrate that the vehicle is not a high-emitting unit

Failure to comply within the required timeframe may result in violations, fines, and potential operational disruptions.

Clean Truck Check Enforcement & Violations
